Mark Ruffalo enjoyed some spirits during the 2011 Film Independent Spirit Awards which was hosted by Jameson Irish Whiskey at Santa Monica Beach. Held the night before the Oscars, Mark Ruffalo was nominated for Best Supporting Male for his role in The Kids Are All Right but the award went to Winter’s Bone actor John Hawkes.

Eva Mendes and Jeremy Renner did the honors when they announced the nominees for the 2011 Film Independent Spirit Awards during a press conference at the London West Hollywood Hotel. One of the more interesting categories is the Best Female Lead which includes Annette Bening for her role in The Kids Are All Right, Nicole Kidman for Rabbit Hole, Natalie Portman for Black Swan and Michelle Williams for Blue Valentine. “My Sisters Keeper”
Conceived by means of in vitro fertilization, Anna Fitzgerald (Abigail Breslin) was brought into the world to be a genetic match for her older sister, Kate (Sofia Vassilieva), who suffers from acute promyelocytic leukemia. Their lives have been intertwined because of their donor-recipient relationship from the minute Anna was born. Anna suffers, such as losing the chance to go to a prestigious hockey camp in order to be there when her sister needs her, but when she turns 13 and Kate goes into renal failure, needing Anna’s kidney, Anna sues her parents for medical emancipation.

Attorney Campbell Alexander (Alec Baldwin), who has a guide dog he refuses to reveal the function of, agrees to work for Anna pro bono. There is a subplot concerning him and Anna’s guardian ad litem, Julia Romano (Joan Cusack), who is also Campbell’s ex-high school girlfriend.

“The Box”
The plot is set in Raleigh, North Carolina in the year 1976. An unhappily married couple (Diaz and Marsden) receive a box from a mysterious stranger (Langella), who tells them that pushing a button on the box will award them with a large monetary sum, and simultaneously, someone the couple does not know will die.
